anthidium manicatum

Hi All,

I saw the new anthidium online survey looks good. Good work !.

I am making a very simple study probably for the BWARS newsletter of what actually is the important forage of anthidum based on simple counts of females either collecting Pollen and nectar or nectar only. Based in my Garden in cornwall but a few other sites. How specific are they ?? Really simple but interesting so far.

If any members want to contribute would be really welcome as my garden is limited. Either by posting through this forum or contacting me personally or put a comment note on the online survey.

also importantly when they collect pollen they very definitly rub their abodmen on the anthers repeately. there is another possible vaguer movements when they clean themselves while collecting nectar if it is vaguer say possible pollen ?? or dont record or discuss ??

All the best

Paddy

Hi Paddy, In my garden in

Hi Paddy,

In my garden in Shrewsbury I have noted that females take nectar frequently from Stachys sylvatica and Linaria purpurea. I can't say that I have noted them definitively foraging pollen in some 15 years.

Hi Nigel,

Thanks, that tallys with me and also stachys palustris, but i have them collecting pollen off greater birdsfoot trefoil and prob rest harrow at another site. if you have any fabacaea locally would be interested if you see them on that as well.
