Bombus monticola records - lancs

Three Bombus monticola females spotted at White Coppice, Lancashire (south of Brinscall) on sallows 11.30 - 13.00, 10/04/15 - two large, lively and obvious queens, one female more worker sized and fairly inactive.

Hi Ben, Good to hear you

Hi Ben,

Good to hear you found some! Hope you get some more. More warm weather coming....

B monticola in Bolton and E Lancs

Hi Ben - it was good to meet you on Friday. Checking my records the most recent B monticola I had on Cotoneaster in my garden at Horrocks Fold (SD704130) was a worker on 10 June 2012. The nearest Bilberry is about 500m to the NW. I plan to check out nearby Sallows in the next day or two.

I also contacted a friend in Rossendale who had B monticola a few years ago: a queen on thistle at Stubbylee Moss (SD868215) on 13 August 2011 and a worker on Bilberry at Lee Quarry track (SD864214) on 19 May 2013.

I've asked him if he could check the Sallows near to Bilberry areas to look for queens.

Best wishes, Jim Ormerod

Bombus monticola

Many thanks Jim, I'll send these records through to GMEU unless you already have. Also interesting to hear about a Rossendale record, not all that far away from Oswaldtwistle where I live - I don't think LERN have that record if it can be submitted.
