Worker B. Pratorum were observed today in the garden in Dorset visiting flower spires in a methodical and specific pattern.
Each time they landed on the spire (a purple wild form of Veronica in this case), it was one of the lower flowers. It then systematically went up and around flowers until it reached buds that had not opened and then flew to the next spire base.
B.pascuorum was also seen to do the same to a foxglove. This must be a very efficient way of covering available pollen.
