Even tree bumblebees give us 'back off' warning signs!

When feeling threatened away from its nest, an individual bumblebee will display an array of signs for you to 'back off'. Given their 'aggressive' label this tree bumblebee, displayed at least 5 to my knowledge and walked off into the sunset!

See them in video here http://bit.ly/18NWor1

Aggression

I have found the bees to be more defensive than aggressive I have to say. This behaviour I have seen only on one occasion when I had a nest in a bird box on my wall and I went too close to it

Defensive Aggression!

Hi Stuart, Unfortunately I receive numerous requests to remove bumblebee nests and this year has seen B. hypnorum top of the list. When people undertake internet searches the words tree bumblebee and 'aggression', are mentioned by my enquirers. I have to tell them they are aggressive defenders of their nests! I also think the dancing drones puts a little apprehension in peoples minds!
