Why bee hotel and not bee nest/home/lodgings?

Not important I know though I wonder as it is blindingly obvious that solitary bees/wasps use them as their living quarters for many months from birth to maturity leaving to start an independent adult life. So why they are called bee hotels when they are not used as a bed and breakfast or for a two week holiday?!!

Bee hotels is just a phrase

Bee hotels is just a phrase that the retail trade invented, but has now found its way into every day use. I prefer to call them trap nests (although they are not traps!). This was a phrase first used by Krombein, to describe his pioneering work, investigating life histories of aerial nesting aculeates.

Yes Thanks Nigel. I am aware of his work having a rather tatty edition of his book! I think it's a shame that retailers to customers, academics to researchers
et al just re enforce this unfortunate description of a bee nest! Just tell them as it is and not what it is nt is my motto! There is no harm in that! Cheers George
