Adding a new species account page to the website - How to

To create a new species account first you will need to add a new term to the taxonomic hierarchy.

Add a new term to the taxonomic hierarchy

Point to:

>Structure

>Taxonomy (NOT Taxonomy Menu)

>Taxonomy hierarchy

>Edit

Click "List"

Click "Add Term"

>in the "Name" box enter the name of the species e.g. Halictus scabiosae

> in the "Description" box enter "Species" (without the " ")

>click "Save and go to list"

Check the taxonomic hierarchy for the new species. You will need to drag the term around in the taxonomic hierarchy to get it in the precise alphabetically correct position.

> click Save (at the bottom of the page)

Creating the new species account page
Go to

>Content

>Add content

> select ant account, bee account or wasp account from the drop down list and then edit the new page that is created. Be sure to select the appropriate terms in the "taxonomic hierarchy" box. The new species should appear under the appropriate genus (if not you have failed to create the term correctly in the taxonomic hierarchy and will need to put that right).

>Save the changes.

> Add at least one image of the species. See the help page "Adding a single image for a species" for how to do this

Test the page

Try to navigate to the page from "Species Gallery" or "A-Z of Species". If there's no problem you're all done.
If you get a "page not found" error you will need to amend the URL path settings for the page.

NOTE: Sometimes the page will display with all the field headings listed, even those for which no text has been entered. This should eventually correct itself after 5-10 minutes or so.

Correcting the URL path settings for a newly created page

1) Staying on the "page not found" page copy the contents of the address bar so that you are ready to paste it at a later stage.

2) Click on "Content"

Find your new page - it should be at or near the top of the list (if it's not then sort by updated by clicking on "updated")

Click on "edit"

3) Scroll to the bottom of your page and click on "URL path settings"

Make sure that "Generate automatic URL alias" is unchecked and paste in the address you copied in step 1.

Delete "http://bwars.com/" from the begining of this address. NB. When you are done there should be no leading "/".

Click save

All should now work well.
